Soil is life - providing all the nutrients and water plants need to grow. Soil is really a mix of different components like organic matter, water, minerals, oxygen particles and living organisms. Different amounts of these elements will determine the makeup of your soil, and in turn determine how much water and nutrient it will hold and how it will perform in your garden.
